The Texas Department of Insurance is proposing new rules for association and student health plans, while in Washington, lawmakers have introduced the Insurance Fraud Accountability Act to crack down on rogue brokers.

Events & Networking
This fall brings two signature gatherings at Vouv Event Space in Dallas. On November 20, members are invited to a Legislative Lunch featuring Shannon Meroney, who will provide a preview of the 2025 legislative session (with one hour of CE credit available). In December, the chapter will host its annual Mingle & Jingle Ugly Sweater Party on the 3rd, with food, drinks, dancing, and holiday cheer.

Leadership & Involvement
The 2024–2025 NABIP-Dallas Board of Directors is in place, led by President Jennifer Stanley. Several positions remain open, including Vice President, Membership Co-Chair, Retention Chair, Sponsorship Chair, and Legislative Co-Chair, offering members opportunities to get involved and give back to the association.

Professional Development
NABIP continues to expand education and certification offerings. Members can pursue designations such as the Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC), Medicare Advantage Certification, and a range of specialized courses including ACA & Beyond and Benefits Technology Certification. The Online Learning Institute provides self-paced CE opportunities, while the Speakers Bureau and Career Center offer resources for professional growth and advancement.

Legislative & Policy Updates
The Texas Department of Insurance has released draft rules concerning association and student health plans. Proposed changes would clarify eligibility, extend HIPAA protections to student health plans, streamline filing requirements, and require advance notice of rate increases. At the federal level, the newly introduced Insurance Fraud Accountability Act aims to curb rogue health insurance brokers by imposing civil and criminal penalties, strengthening consumer protections, and requiring stricter verification and oversight processes.

Advocacy & PAC Engagement
The NABIP-TX PAC continues to play an active role in state-level advocacy by supporting legislative candidates who promote affordable healthcare solutions. Members are encouraged to contribute to the PAC through one-time or recurring donations to help sustain its work.

Washington Update
Nationally, NABIP is pushing key initiatives including support for the Improving Access to Medicare Coverage Act of 2024, advocacy around noncompete rule implementation, and defending consumer protections in health coverage. Additional updates include state-level mental health legislation in Michigan, compliance webinars on ERISA fiduciary responsibilities, and a new episode of NABIP’s Healthcare Happy Hour podcast.

Member Resources
NABIP-Dallas continues to support its members with monthly luncheons (third Wednesday of each month, except December), free first-lunch registration for new members, and online CE webinars through the Lone Star Virtual Chapter. The Resource Hub also offers guides, reports, and white papers on industry trends, including featured content on Section 105 medical reimbursement plans.
